The tradition of lace-making, introduced in 1672 by Flemish and Walloon nuns, has been integrated with a simpler local practice that has been widespread in and around Gorica, Idria and the surrounding area since the seventeenth century. The foundresses of the monastery, who came from Liège, consolidated the Flemish technique as a hallmark of Gorgian craftsmanship, inextricably linking lace to the Ursulines.
