Even to this day, the St. Andrew’s Fair is one of the most beloved and awaited. For children and young people of the latest generations, it is the fair of rides and treats of all kinds, but although it has changed greatly over time, for centuries it has heralded the beginning of winter and, above all, the Christmas season! This is what it must have looked like a while ago:
“St. Andrew’s Fair, whose origins are lost in the grayness of time, still had, in the late 19th century, a certain importance for Gorizia. It lasted, as in past centuries, fifteen days from the first Monday following the saint’s feast day. […] Shopkeepers were making a stunning display on that day. On the sides of the doors and in the windows appeared objects never before displayed. […]”
