The program – The walk is scheduled for. Saturday, March 29 with a meeting at 10:00 a.m. in front of St. Ignatius Church and will be led by Valentina Randazzo. The story that will be revealed during the walk will begin with a beautiful painting kept in the church. The story of this work of art will be the starting point for a route that will wind its way along one of Gorizia’s oldest neighborhoods: in fact, from the church of St. Ignatius, it will continue along Carducci Street, Favetti Street, Santo Street and Victory Square, arriving at the Bottega del Cappello, the project headquarters of Confcommercio Gorizia on Rastello Street.
The maximum number of participants is 50 people. For information and registration you can write to info@laviadelborgo.eu or send a WhatsApp message to (+39) 334 750 5642.
Statements – Gianluca Madriz, President of Confcommercio Gorizia: “The setting of the European Capital of Culture is generating increasing curiosity from outside the city, but it is an important opportunity to rethink itself for the local community as well: in fact, Gorizians have the chance to look at their city with different and intrigued eyes. For this reason, we are working on organizing new moments of meeting and sharing such as walks to discover places in Borgo Castello. Places that we may take a little for granted but are actually full of stories to discover and learn to tell. We are confident that this
renewed curiosity will be able to generate ideas and projects for the area and for the people of Gorica.”
Valentina Randazzo: “The title of the event combines three elements that seem to have nothing in common, but in fact this walk starts from an important study conducted by Fr. Alessio Stasi and Maddalena Malni and ends with the discovery of a very ancient place, of which very few traces are preserved today. The idea stems from a beautiful article from December 2020 in which Fr. Alessio Stasi tells the story of the altarpiece kept in St. Ignatius, dedicated to St. Raphael. The study of the altarpiece was conducted at the time by Don Alessio Stasi himself and Dr. Maddalena Malni Pascoletti. Both of them, who died prematurely in 2023, were two important, if not fundamental, scholars of Gorizia’s and the region’s history and art history.”
Fr. Alessio Stasi (1976-2023) was a Gorizia priest and scholar, known for his profound knowledge of Gorizia’s religious and civil history, mastery of local languages, and rigorous archival research, with a special interest in art history.
Maddalena Malni Pascoletti (1946-2023) was a prominent historian and essayist in Gorizia, known for her research on local events and her commitment to the enhancement of the city’s cultural heritage. She has been president of Italia Nostra, the soul of the Unesco Club and a member of the Palazzo Coronini Cronberg Foundation, contributing to numerous initiatives and publications on the history and art of Gorizia.
